Draft able to regularize unlawful settlements in Sindh

    KARACHI: Illegal settlements will probably be regularized by Governor Sindh Imran Ismail after the Sindh authorities ratified an ordinance despatched to him on Wednesday.

    Following the Supreme Court’s order to demolish Karachi’s Nasla Tower, the Sindh authorities has taken steps to reorganize unlawful institutions.

    Administrator KMC, spokesman for the Sindh authorities and advisor to the CM on laws, barrister Murtuja Wahab, mentioned the provincial authorities had determined to cease anti-encroachment operations throughout Sindh.

    “Anti-encroachment operation from Karachi to Kashmir will be temporarily suspended. The Sindh government has promulgated an ordinance to stop the anti-encroachment drive. Addressing a press conference in the Sindh Assembly, he said a commission would be set up under the ordinance to determine which non-commercial structures should not be demolished.

    Wahab said the areas have been commercialised and the results are being felt today. “An underground system has not been created. This problem has spread all over Pakistan. Societies have been set up on agricultural land in Islamabad.”

    The spokesperson asked that if the Nashla Tower is being demolished, why is it not happening with the Bani Gala.

    He said that the PPP has prepared a draft of the ordinance and sent it to the Governor. “The Governor of Sindh will approve the draft ordinance,” he hoped, including that the ordinance was made purely within the curiosity of the residents.
